Dr. Gwen Gorzelsky

Dr. Gwen Gorzelsky serves as executive director of the Institute for Learning and Teaching (TILT) and is a professor in the Department of English at Colorado State University. She studies writing development and writing instruction, learning transfer, metacognition, and literacy learning, particularly uses of literacy for personal and social change. With Co-PIs, she conducted a multi-institutional, mixed-methods, longitudinal study of students’ writing development and transfer of writing knowledge from general education to disciplinary courses, work supported by the Spencer Foundation and the National Council of Teachers of English. She has also served as PI on grants to integrate adaptive courseware into large-enrollment foundational courses, to promote community-engaged learning, and to prepare graduate students in humanities disciplines to teach in various contexts. She has published articles in College Composition and Communication, College English, and other venues, as well as The Language of Experience: Literate Practices and Social Change (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2005).
